Technical Scope and Capabilities

This service provides characterisation of detectors and other devices exposed to short X-ray pulses of broad spectrum.

Core Infrastructure / Tools / Equipment

The service uses a custom-built setup based on the Golden Engineering XRS4 X-Ray source.

System parameters and equipment:

  • maximum photon energy of 370 keV
  • average output dose of approximately 5 mR per pulse
  • pulse duration of approximately 10 ns
  • pulse rate of 9 pulses per second
  • protective shielding of 2.5 cm to 5 cm thickness
  • 1 GHz oscilloscope
  • DC power supplies
  • silicon photomultipliers as reference detectors.

Possible Restrictions

Sample size is limited to 10 × 10 × 10 cm.
