At the 46th National Physics Conference (LNFk-46), held in Kaunas University of\u00a0 Technology (KTU)<\/a> on October 9\u201310, one of the plenary session presentations focused on the future of semiconductor technologies in Lithuania. Dr. Gediminas Ra\u010diukaitis,\u00a0 coordinator of the ChipsC2-LT project, delivered a talk entitled \u201cCan Lasers Help Reinvigorate Lithuania\u2019s Semiconductor Industry?\u201d The presentation addressed the objectives of the European Union\u2019s Chips Act, Lithuania\u2019s role within the broader semiconductor ecosystem, and how laser technologies could serve as a cornerstone for restoring and strengthening the country\u2019s microelectronics potential.<\/p>\n

Dr. G. Ra\u010diukaitis emphasized that the Lithuanian Chips Competence Centre (ChipsC2-LT), operating as a \u201cone-stop-shop\u201d platform, aims to connect science and industry\u2014from microchip design to advanced packaging technologies. The project, funded under the European Chips Joint Undertaking (Chips JU), involves four main partners: FTMC<\/a>, Vilniaus Universitetas<\/a>, Vilnius TECH<\/a>, ir Kauno technologijos universitetas (KTU)<\/a>. It represents Lithuania\u2019s contribution to the European semiconductor network, which unites more than 30 competence centers across the continent. During the presentation, several areas were highlighted in which Lithuania already holds high added value:
\n\u00b7 Laser technologies for advanced semiconductor packaging,
\n\u00b7 Heterogeneous integration and microchip interconnection solutions,
\n\u00b7 III\u2013V compound and THz technology research,
\n\u00b7 GaN (Gallium Nitride) Materials
\n\u00b7 Chip Design and RF Circuits
\n\u00b7 ASIC and MEMS Technologies
\n\u00b7 Close collaboration with Taiwan\u2019s Ultra-Fast Laser Technology Center (ULTRI).<\/p>\n

In conclusion, Dr. G. Ra\u010diukaitis noted that the European Chips Act<\/a> still requires improvement to genuinely stimulate innovation and investment across Europe. However, projects like ChipsC2-LT demonstrate that regional collaboration can become a driving force toward technological independence. \u201cLasers are not only our strength but also an opportunity to reignite the revival of Lithuania\u2019s semiconductor industry,\u201d -said Dr. G. Ra\u010diukaitis.<\/p>\n
